Two of Cappadocia's best-known underground sites
Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı are among the underground settlements included within the wider UNESCO World Heritage landscape of Cappadocia. Both contain multi-level rock-cut spaces and narrow passages.
They are not airport-transfer stops
Visiting an underground city is a separate sightseeing trip. A standard airport transfer is a direct transport service, so an underground-city visit should be planned separately.
Think about comfort before entering
Parts of the sites involve low ceilings, stairs and confined passages. Travellers who are uncomfortable in tight spaces or have mobility limitations should check the current visitor conditions before going underground.
Check current access information
Opening hours, restoration work and ticket arrangements can change. Use current official information for the day of your visit rather than a fixed timetable copied from an older guide.
Keep the airport day simple
If your flight is the same day, return to the hotel in time for the confirmed pickup rather than trying to connect from an underground city directly to the airport. See airport transfer prices for the normal hotel-to-airport service.
